ABOUT THE RESEARCH
After many months of restriction due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Karine Guizzo felt a strong urge to play again – to create and explore new forms and styles of theater.
Especially aimed at an adult audience, this tragicomic dance experiment plays with hints of burlesque eroticism and contemporary dance.
It is freely inspired by the story of Ovid's Metamorphoses.
Narcissus is represented by two dancers, Lorenzo Capodieci and Paolo Yao.
Echo, portrayed by Christie Lou Partelow, is in love with Narcissus but is rejected by him.
The intention is to develop this research work into a possible performance in 2022, however this depends on the final result and feedback.
The project consists of a few weeks of research in the Cloud@Danslab and 5 presentations for a limited audience.
We hope you will come to share this fun and one-off experience with us!
THE PERFORMERS
Christie Lou Partelow (New York, USA 1987)
Christie has danced professionally for Nederlands Dance Theatre, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, and Complexions, as well as in the role of ‘Anybodys’ in West Side Story the musical. Karine worked with Christie on a duo commissioned for the 100 years of KLM anniversary (2019), and on the project 'We are Monuments’ (2020).
She enjoys the freedom of that space where mind and body connect and can follow threads and flow to create.
Lorenzo Capodieci (Trieste, Italy 1990)
Lorenzo studied dance at Codarts Rotterdam. Since 2014 he worked with Karine Guizzo, Cie Woest, Cecilia Moisio, Katja Heitmann, IDT and, for young audience, with De Dansers, Erik Kaiel, Andreas Denk and Gaia Gonnelli and more. Karine has been working regularly with Lorenzo on both commissioned works and independent projects for many years now.
"I love dancing because it always keeps surprising me and, performing, I can celebrate life with my whole self."
Paolo Yao (Regio-Emilia, Italy 1990)
Paolo Yao Kouadio graduated from Codarts Rotterdam.
He danced with De Stilte Danst in Breda (2012/2016 ) and is since then freelance, working with the choreographers Connor Schumacher, Dario Tortorelli, Arno Schuitemaker, and a few others, as well as modeling.
Karine worked with Paolo on a dance duet performed inside the Kunstmuseum in The Hague.
